Why silicone is different

The commitments silicone demands
Three trade-offs are the honest price. Recoat lock-in: nothing bonds to cured silicone except more silicone, choose it and every future coat, patch and repair on that roof is silicone too, forever, the compatibility law of the sealant guide at bucket scale. Dirt pickup: the surface holds dust, dulling its bright-white reflectivity faster than acrylic; periodic rinsing restores it. Slickness: wet silicone is genuinely slippery, walk-pad paths for maintained roofs are not optional decoration, and crews treat wet silicone fields with ice-grade respect, per the safety rules. None of these outweigh the ponding immunity where ponding rules; all of them belong in the decision before the first bucket opens.
What a silicone job looks like
The sequence mirrors every honest coating spec: moisture survey first (silicone over wet insulation seals the rot in, the disqualifier that ends candidacy), then wash, dry, and repair, seams re-secured, boots replaced, details rebuilt, then primer where the substrate chart demands (some membranes, rusted metal), reinforced detail work at penetrations and transitions, and the field coat rolled or sprayed to specified wet mils, gauge-checked, high-solids products commonly hitting warranted thickness in one pass. Warranted systems add manufacturer inspection.
